The immediate surroundings to the cottages, which are outstandingly beautiful even for a river setting such as this, include the stone-walled wild gardens to each residence, the magnificent wooded country alongside the Croesor river and a couple of fine waterfalls above.

From the cottages there are fine views of Cnicht mountain (2 hour trek) and from the surrounding foothills the whole of the Glaslyn estuary, together with Cardigan Bay and Lleyn peninsular coast line, can be seen with the Snowdon ranges forming a magnificent back-drop to the area.

History

The cottages were originally leased by my grandparents some 65 years ago to prevent the quarrying of Carreg Hyltrem Rock, then renovated and leased by my father from my late great-uncle, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, who lived locally at Plas Brondanw, and whose Portmeirion Charitable Foundation Estate now includes this valley and much of the Croesor lands above. Since 2000, I and my wife Mandy have taken over the management of the cottages and are continuing with a steady programme of improvements to the buildings and gardens.
